Happy Wednesday! What games are you playing lately? I’m on my second playthrough of The Last of Us Part II. I’m excited to slow down and enjoy some of the more peaceful chapters (one’s in a museum; another is in a house) without fearing jump scares. Let us know on Twitter what games you’re obsessing over and looking forward to!
Ooblets, the long-awaited, adorable life simulation game, finally released last week. The game features a wide variety of activities including growing crops, raising animals, and stealing items from neighbors’ homes.
Paper Mario: The Origami King released this past weekend. Here are some details about its lengthy fights and its many puzzles.
In excellent news, Madden NFL 21 will use a generic name and logo for the Washington metro area’s football team.
Stardew Valley is getting an update with “a significant new piece of end-game content.” Unfortunately, the ConcernedApe has not yet announced when the update will be available.
Crysis Remastered releases on Switch this week. It’s receiving some pushback for its less-than-impressive graphics. However, the port is an impressive technical feat that, despite the graphics, runs surprisingly well.
2K has announced that the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 will cost $70 instead of $60. Many believe this could indicate that the standard price point of new video game releases will rise accordingly. I wonder how a price increase might affect the terrible conditions of uncompensated overtime (“crunch“) that game developers are subjected to.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which releases this November, will have Mortal Kombat-style x-ray animations of deaths.
Magic: The Gathering Arena launched a new format, called Jumpstart, that removes deck-building and focuses on starting games quickly after you choose randomly shown pre-built decks. The Jumpstart event only runs until August 16, though.
The Xbox Games Showcase happens tomorrow, July 23rd. The event will focus only on games and not include reveals about upcoming consoles.

I know everyone is excited for Xbox Games Showcase next Thursday. Seen some wild expectations so if helpful this show has one focus, games. No business, devices or similar news, just games. A whole show about hour long focused on games. Hope you enjoy it! https://t.co/eIPBsJtLbJ

Meanwhile, Microsoft is already stopping production of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.
Real-life Major League Baseball games without fans in attendance are using crowd noises from MLB The Show.
A new Mass Effect Trilogy art book will release in February. It’s available for pre-order now.
Nier Reincarnation, an upcoming Android and iOS game that will include gacha-style mechanics, has a new gameplay trailer. Its worldwide release date hasn’t been announced yet, but its closed beta in Japan begins on July 29th.

Lastly for this week, new details about the PS5’s DualSense controller have been revealed.
