Hello fans! Today we have a mission inspired by Lower Decks, specifically the Mission Brief “Custody Battle” in the Lower Decks Sourcebook. This mission was written by Clark Nichols and they really did an awesome job!
This mission is about a second contact mission to Generic Ice Planet V and the Genicpla there who have made requested changes and are ready to formally apply for membership in the Federation. Because the Genicpla concept of ownership is… let’s say “complicated,” the mission runs into some snags and some chaos. There’s a lot of fun detail in this mission and Clark has also included some advice on running comedic missions that I found insightful. They even have suggested jokes and comedic beats in the parts of the mission to give GMs some assistance! All of this detail makes a lot of sense since Clark has been a fan of RPGs since they were young and they know a thing or two about writing adventures.
I have enjoyed the RPG hobby since I was 14, first with LARPing and basically immediately afterwards gravitating towards Dungeons & Dragons, before branching out to other systems such as Call of Cthulhu and Cypher in college. My Trekkie awakening was very recent, as I only began watching any Star Trek in the middle of Lower Decks season 4. This was entirely because of Moopsy. After finishing that series I devoured the entire Star Trek back catalog like a bag of delicious storebrand veggie straws. Completely obsessed with Trek since, I picked up STA to run for my friends, and I was delighted as to how easy it runs. STA really delivers on the Star Trek experience, especially since it makes running “episodes” in a single session super easy. I am very excited for 2E!
